Almost Heaven (But Not Quite): West Virginia Primary Open Thread
almost-heaven-but-not-quite-west-virginia-primary-open-thread

Arrow, who has faithfully liveblogged many an election night this primary season, has the night off. In lieu of her descriptions of the anti-climactic results (Sen. Clinton by 20-30 points, and a victory speech telling us her candidacy is still viable, dammit!) we have here an open thread for you to amuse yourselves with.

However, if the MSNBC All-Star Pundit Scrabble® Tournament does happen to break out, you can expect full coverage from your ERT Action News Team!

Cleveland State University Debate - Open Thread

Welcome to the 20th and last scheduled debate between Senators Clinton and Obama. The debate is live from 9:00 - 10:30 EST on MSNBC, or you can view streaming video here. KO and Chris Matthews will pick up the post-debate coverage at 10:30 EST.

Please, feel free to comment as the debate goes on!

The charming and delightful Arrow will be here to pick up the coverage at 10pm EST. Until then, have some fun in the comments (maybe at Mr. Matthews’ expense).

Minor Swing

Due to a little mix up (a.k.a. “Becky screwed up”) there is no recap for last night’s show. I will, however, be live blogging Our Mr. Olbermann on Saturday night as he and David Gregory anchor coverage of the South Carolina primary results. I’m not sure what I’ll do without Tweety to verbally kick around, but I happen to be a big fan of Stretch so I’m sure I can come up with something.

In the mean time, talk amongst yourselves and enjoy the gypsy swing of Wednesday night’s Oddball birthday boy, Django Reinhardt, after the jump.

Merry Happy, Everyone!

Even though there has been nothing to post,* we’re still open for business through the holiday (though moderation may be slow).

I have noticed Truth and Consequences showing up on a lot of lists, but haven’t seen any reviews yet. If any of you catch a review, please drop a link in the comments, s’il vous plait. I’ll be braving the after-Christmas crowds tomorrow to pick up my own copy, and we’ll have a book review post appearing tomorrow for book talk.

*Stef was pretty ill last night, so we’ll forgive her missing FNIA. Won’t we?

Nosferatu!

I had planned on having a downloadable, life-size Keith Olbermann mask for you to print and cut out, but I figured most of you probably don’t have a large format printer at your disposal.

On this day in 1901, Annie Edson Taylor, school marm and dance instructor, became the first person to go over Niagra Falls in a barrel - and survive. She was 63 at the time, and thought the stunt would bring her enough fame and fortune to see her comfortably through old age. While she did earn money for speaking engagements, the “fortune” part never panned out. You see, her manager absconded with her famous pickle barrel and she spent a great deal trying to track it down again. It was found by detectives, but vanished soon after. At the end, she worked as a clairvoyant and ran a souvenir stand at the Falls where she would pose for pictures with the tourists.

Thursday Open Thread - Now At Noon(ish)

I’m trying out a midday open thread for a while. It seems silly to post an OT every morning on top of a recap that you probably haven’t had a chance to read yet.

As for today’s content, how about Dan Patrick joining Sports Illustrated?

On this day in 1914 Jerry Siegel was born. Siegel, along with high school buddy Joe Shuster created Superman. As with many creative endeavors for corporate entities at the time, Siegel and Shuster held no legal rights to Supes, nor the money the character generated. The pair sued for those rights in 1946. Suit was brought again in 1967, and again in 1975. Finally DC Comics agreed to pay each man $35,000 per year and require any future comics, movies, and television shows include the credit “created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.” As of this year, Siegel’s heirs are still fighting DC over rights issues.
