ETA: Gail Shister talks to KO about SNL:
As a technical achievement, it was an A+ Seriously: Ben did that off cue cards, as I discovered when he sent me one with a funny message scrawled in the corner. That is startling to me. I barely get through something of that length on teleprompter. Ben got most of the facial expressions right, and the camera turns were hilarious. And - no offense to Richard Wolffe - but I laughed out loud when they converted “him” into The Worst Person for disagreeing with me.
Also, you can kvetch now and again about criticism, and lord knows I do, but if you are insulted by something like this, it’s time to become a Park Ranger. I mean if they want to do another sketch just skewering me and they’re stuck for somebody to do the impression, I’ll do the impression.

And he would be great at it, too. I think he should host SNL

KO, I agree with your assessment of Affleck’s talent. He’s extremely underrated as an actor.

I voted at 7:10 after a delay in getting the polling place open.
You know, we all need to exercise our franchise, and of course, some of ‘em need more exercising than others.

I am so glad that I voted early last week.
I had thought of taking my I VOTED EARLY sticker in to Starbucks for a free coffee in case I could get the Olbermann quote cup (assuming that Starbucks sent any of the Olbermann cups to AZ, which they may not have done not wanting things thrown through their store windows and all), but this is all so fascinating in a rather hypnotic way.
I also do not belong in a voting line today as I do not know how I could keep my mouth shut in line with all the local McCain supporters as they are becoming so grim - the word “TRAITOR” has been used for those not voting for McCain. Some of them could turn dangerous, and I am not interested in experiencing a little old lady beating me over the head with her purse.
Before returning to AZ late last night, John McCain had a rally in Roswell, New Mexico. I had to wonder if he is so desperate that he is going for the Gray vote - Universally.
Last night McCain was to have had a late night rally in the town of Prescott, close to his home in Cornville. My friend Mary, who lives in Prescott, commented that not only are his Prescott area supporters so old that they would have been in bed hours earlier, but that it was supposed to be a tad chill at 40 F.
I am getting a really bad nervous stomach attack and eyeing my dog’s Elavil Rx.

Oh, my, I have just seen the new Tom Tomorrow in the Tumble Blogging and sent it on to select friends.
And, having done a great deal of research into the Native American Spider Woman legends on Sunday, I find myself referring to Keith and Rachel in the next to the last panel as The Hero Twins.

Obama is ahead in Omaha! He could get one electoral vote out of Nebraska! Let’s hear it for my hometown, OBAMAHA!
And Chuck Todd just complimented us on our nice square county borders.

I felt it only right that KO called the election last night for Obama, and not Matthews or Gregory.

Best part of the night was when they came back from commercial six minutes before the top of the hour and you could tell they were ready to call it already, just waiting for the time to wind down.
Was sorry they had to cut off the bishop (not a euphemism), sad there was relatively little Gene and Rachel, but glad they both got to sit at the big table last night. Oh, and no stupid “holograms” either. I’ll take Chuck Todd over George Lucas any day of the week.

The city was electric last night. I feel such a great sense of relief that this has really happened, President Obama. It sounds so cool. I’m giddy & exhausted at the same time, it’s quite a nice feeling. My relatives in Indiana are so happy that their state went blue too.
I loved the “Keith” SNL skit. The best was the 360 degree chair spin for ‘dramatic purposes’. Ben did a terrific job and it seems Keith really got a kick out of it. It was funny that both he & Sarah Palin got ’souvenir’ SNL cue cards. ;)

Anyone have a link to KO’s calling the election for Obama?
I was so nervous, I kept switching from MSNBC to House reruns because everytime I watched MSNBC, McCain was declared a winner somewhere and my nerves couldn’t take it. (I tend to curse competitions for people/teams I like).
Also, based on post-election analysis I’m hearing on most networks, pundits say McCain lost the election over his reaction to the economy — when he suspended his campaign to “go” to DC. I guess Letterman and KO had a bigger role in the outcome of the election than we thought!!!

Sorry, me again —
Did anyone catch CNN’s “holograms”?
They were so bizarre, they made me nauseous. Just plain stupid use of “available” technology that looked more fitting for the SciFi channel.

Thank you so for the video link, Olberfann.
There are a few rare moments in a lifetime when we all remember where we were and how we learned eh news and reacted. Certainly, for most if not all of us, 9/11 falls in that category. Now, I think we have a new one of those moments.
I have watched the start of this video, THE CALL, as I am thinking of it, over and over again and am now sharing on to others.
I had been so self numbed, not daring to hope as the states had all been falling according to the old patterns, starting with a McCain win in some southern state.
Some hope with PA holding after all the foul ads and Palin speeches there, and then Ohio, and knowing logically that it was a win as long as the West Coast did go into mass inanity, but, still, until it was called, I would not allow myself to believe…to hope…
…and, when it came, it was so subdued, that at first I was in shock. Now, listening again, I realize that Olbermann was so overcome that he could barely speak, and that he had been the one to announce the Obama win because the rest of them were unable to.
MSNBC stayed on the park scene, no comment, for at least five minutes, and I thought at the time that it was a rare example of the media showing restraint, and, then, when they returned to the panel, it was clear that they had all been struck dumb by emotion and were still struggling to regain professional demeanor.
Considering the way I was reacting, how could I blame them?

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
How’s that for a banner, John McCain?
By jamescraven on Sunday, November 9, 2008 2:20 am | Permalink
Last night, when I felt the need to relive the moment Obama’s win was announced, I watched the link of the KO announcement quite a few times and then checked out the other You Tube stuff of the announcement.
One, which was hilarious, was shot at an upscale sports bar in California, and while FOX announced well ahead of the other stations, no one was watching the tv showing a MUTED Fox. The person shooting this realized that Obama had been declared the winner by Fox but in the hubbub could not get anyone else’s attention.
One group, who apparently have an online type of TV show called The Young Turks, had created their own Mission Accomplished banner and had it up after the announcement.
Very satisfying.
The local news here in Phoenix and surrounding areas is in anguish, trying to find the reason(s) that McCain lost.
That he was the wrong candidate at the wrong time never seems to have occurred to them. They are clinging to the polls (along with their guns and religion) right after the Rep Con, not seeming to realize that the huge “youth” vote was never a part of any of those polls.
I now have Keith’s voice firmly in my brain in association with two of the most fantastic moments of my recent life - The Rumsfeld Special Comment and the Announcement of Obama’s victory.
I hope that this is not programming me to burst into tears every time I hear Keith’s voice. So far I have made it through the pre game for FNiA unscathed, but that is not the fate of the Republic and the World, just football.
