Not just from me, but from all of us for whom that day is still very vivid and painful.
Please note: This is just KO, not the RNC “tribute” of which he speaks. Please do not post links to that video in the comments.

my 20-something niece and I were watching together. I was shocked that they showed the video, mentioned I couldn’t see the point. she replied “it’s all they’ve got.” smart kid.

Now watch Obama bring up that sorry ass excuse for a video in a campaign ad.

He’s a big, wonderful champion for the truth and for decency. Good job, KO.

I am in tears as I write this. I did not watch last night, watched most of the cable recaps this morning, and only when I got to work and checked out political blogs did I come across Keith’s response to this RNC disgrace. I want my country back. This isn’t funny anymore.

How many more ways can I say, “I LOVE YOU, Keith Olbermann.”
Bless you!

Thank you. Becky. And also, I suspect that it was you, thanks for editing down one of my earlier posts of something that rattles my personal chain but should not be posted, as I realized several hours too late.
This statement from Keith is one of those true moments of grace that is so powerful and principled.
How any one could have watched this reaction and called it Angry is beyond me.
The true stature of the man looms so large, no matter how big he may be physically.

What’s wrong with this picture?

It’s the only time you’ll ever see Keith Olbermann on the far right.

Rafi’s Mom, I did indeed do the editing. I was pretty uncomfortable with putting that out there, even if we are only a moderate traffic site. Glad you weren’t offended.

Of course not. And, I am posting this here as my position to everyone else. That this is your site and you have a right to set the posting rules and approve content. I respect that and hope that everyone else does as well.
It all seemed such a pattern to me when I was writing, and I was sharing something that is not mine to share, so committing a terrible breach by violating a friend’s confidence. I feel profound relief that you caught it and snipped.

As Awful Announcing’s “Create the Caption” game said: “It’s the only time you’ll see Keith Olbermann on the far right.”

My movie reference.
Well, as the guys keep doing it: I knew that Sarah Palin reminded me of someone:
Remember that I have a 8 year old and thus my recent movie going experience has gradually been moving from Disney to Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Sarah Palin reminds me of the Homeowners Association head in Over the Hedge, which is an absolutely wonderful movie with a lot of humor for adults.
My theory as to why American politics is such a screwed up mess, formed over a dozen years ago, is that a lot of fear-filled people who want to control everyone else in their never successful effort to feel safe get involved in Homeowners Associations, and once they have a taste of power by fining people for painting their front doors the wrong color and parking in their own driveways, they move on to City Council, Mayor, etc.
This makes getting real things accomplished very difficult for all those who are active in everything from Homeowners Associations on up out of a desire to serve the community and nation.
When enough of them get into Congress (or, god help us, the Presidency), gridlock, as they are so rigid and unable to compromise.

In that photo of Keith (et al) — KO is only on the viewer’s right — he’s still sitting on the left side of the group in actuality.
If the petty politics of the homeowners association and small towns around me are any indication — small town power holders are nuts!
I was on the board of our homeowners association for about 3 month — until they started spewing anti-Semitic and racist remarks. They even said they had a “freedom of speech” to use the N-word. I resigned in protest. And these are the type of folks who think Palin is qualified to be “commander in chief”!

Sad news –
Jack Cafferty’s wife Carol died suddenly this morning.
Jack is the closest thing to KO on CNN. He always brings a sanity to the news and was one of the first to tell it like it was about Katrina.
Here’s his blog site:

Our hearts and prayers are with him.

I watched it. There is a sinister undercurrent as to how this was put together and what it is really about that I think need to be considered.
I did not want to see it, but, again, needing to know what I was talking about with my die hard pro McCain neighbors had me bracing myself and gritting my teeth when I discovered the RNC video on Huffington Post.
There were none of the truly horrendous images I was expecting based on Keith’s reaction. No planes hitting buildings, people jumping, buildings collapsing, whose repetition over and over on 9/11 and for so many days following continued to traumatize us all and were inexcusable to have out there for family and friends of those lost to see again.
This is a shared National trauma, and we all react differently to trauma.
What I found most alarming about the video, and what has gotten no attention as far as I can tell, was the very beginning, which was from the Carter Administration and the Iranians holding the US Embassy and is residents hostage.
This was thus directly tied to so many other news clips that followed over the next 27+ years, including embassy bombings, the USS Cole, etc, and included 9/11.
These were all tied together as if the acts were all planned and carried out by a unified evil threat, and I was hearing John McCain singing to the Beach Boys, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran.
I believe that this video was a deliberate propaganda effort to drum up support for an attack on Iran.

Hey, will there be a “Blogging Rachel” site? I’ve got my DVR all set for her first show Monday night!
By Charity on Saturday, September 6, 2008 9:42 am | Permalink
Well, I did reserve the domain name “bloggingmaddow.com” as soon as her show was announced just in case. But as of right now there aren’t any plans to launch a new site.
Rachel does have a great fan site at maddowfans.com with lots of things, including a blog. It’s kinda like ERT and olbermann.org all rolled into one!

Rafi’s Mom –
I think that’s what made the video so shameful — tying 911 into all terrorist attacks, especially the early Iran hostage crisis then talking about the need for strong leadership (as if the Repubs weren’t in charge during the marine barracks bombing and 911). That turned the “tribute” into propaganda and politics. And that was what made it so inappropriate.

Here we go again — Ike is on the same trajectory as Gustav was. Houston and New Orleans both remain inside the “cone.” Probably hit somewhere in the upper Gulf by Friday.
This is getting very tiring, annoying and very, very depressing….
By Houstonian on Saturday, September 6, 2008 11:32 pm | Permalink
And for this great act, Keith got not praised, but demoted.
There is no justice in this world.
