Psycho Driller (qu’est-ce que c’est?)
psycho-driller-quest-ce-que-cest

Tie: Red, with wee dots.
Music: A song with “highway robbery” in the lyrics. You’ve bested me this time, Countdown segue music … chooser … person!
Worst Person: Rupert Murdoch. Evil today, evil to begin with, and evil because he keeps giving cause for Keith’s pirate voice to bounce disturbingly against my eardrums.

Senator Obama’s on the cover of Rolling Stone. Keith mentions the nominee’s “Yeah, I don’t do cowering” statement. This was my favorite part of the article: Obama said he hasn’t met Springsteen, but the two have talked over the phone. // “Not only do I love Bruce’s music, but I just love him as a person,” Obama said. “He is a guy who has never lost track of his roots, who knows who he is, who has never put on a front.” // And did he address him as the Boss? // “You’ve got to,” the candidate said. Those tiny cartoon hearts floating around my head have been there since I read that this afternoon. Also: pictures!

Meanwhile, Senator Reid will not vote for the FISA bill if it makes it that far. Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold are planning to filibuster the legislation, which I misunderstood as something they were going to do today and then spent an hour watching CSPAN on in the background of my computer at work. Because I’m cool. But alas, it was not to be. Dammit, Russ, I don’t watch CSPAN for fun, I watch it for the promise of hot Feingold-on-policy action! Come on!

The lower third says “In it to win in.” Typo, or some kinda’ sense I can’t make? You decide.

Obama’s stance on the issue remains unchanged, but has been clarified somewhat.

Famous denizens of the left coast came out for an Obama fundraiser this week, incl- ooh, Don Cheadle!

So how ’bout that Charlie Black, eh? How’s that guy still employed?

Rep. Robert Wexler joins Keith on this issue, and … I’m sorry. Robert Wexler will always and forever be, at least in my head, this dude. Anyway. Real Rep. Wexler makes the point that incidences of this “value of a terrorist attack” business in the McCain campaign goes way farther than Charlie Black.

Agh, Keith just teased Oddball by saying, “It’s deep, and Dan, I don’t think it’s playable.” IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII really miss my daily Big Show hour.

Oddball: And what exactly was deep but surprisingly playable? This was! It’s awesome. It’s fake, but it’s awesome. ** Aaaand in Cheddar, in England, a guy attempted to slackline across a fricken gorge. He was not successful.

John McCain outlined his “Lexington Project” today (oh, I hope it involves monkeys!), and it includes … doing a lot of stuff that will payoff BIGTIME at or around the year 2025. Neat. Said “stuff” includes initiatives like … doubling the amount of American nuclear power plants. Jesus. Endless potential for new energy sources and this guy’s putting his chips on one that’s destroyed communities and poisoned whole regions. But hey, there’s also offshore drilling and coal (COAL.) plans too. Also, because of the lower third, I’m going to be walking around my house for the rest of the night singing an altered version of that Talking Heads song. Bottom line, McCain is all about the “psychological effect” his “answers” to this crisis will provide. Thus explaining his longtime slogan: A Leader You Can Believe in, Well, in some Neuro-Cognitive Subconscious Way, At Least.

Finally tonight, the Bush 43 Follies. Item the first: he was talking about his pride in being part of a nation with such a strong community of Philippine Americans. He also points out that the cooking done by Phillipine Americans has been very very good to him. *slow clap* Item the second: How’s the name “George W. Bush Sewage Plant” tickle ya? Oh, San Francisco. Is there anything you can’t make sassier?

That’s it for me tonight. See you next time.

Good grief, Stef.

Just when you have me in the balancing act of trying to decide whom I have the bigger crush on, Russ Feingold or Robert Wexler, you throw Don Cheadle into the mix, and I only have two hands.

As for tomorrow, C-SPAN it is, just in case.

Waaaaaah! Was the Oddball tease during the commercial break? I missed it! :(

Also, so sorry to make you watch C-SPAN unnecessarily! But the article I had read really did say that it was going to happen yesterday. If the Senate website were better at daily schedules maybe we could have figured it out sooner…

P.S. Also, thanks, Stef, for the link into the Better Know a District with Wexler. I think that it was after this one that Pelosi started telling her ranks NOT to go on Colbert.

I have never failed but to be amazed at the things Stephen can persuade people to say on camera.

But it also shows Wexler as both having a weird sense of humor (Which is a good thing) and being fearless, which I find both rare and admirable in a career politician.

And, as you seem to have figured out how to navigate the Colbert Report website, do you know the link to Keith’s appearance oh so long ago?

I can’t find it online, but I may have better luck when I get home later (I half-remember saving it to my hard drive once upon a time, but that may not be the case). I’ll get back to you on that :)
