The AP has a story out on the price of baseball tickets, and spoke with Our Mr. Olbermann on the subject:
Olbermann remembered back to 1972, when four seats for the season wound up costing $1,056 (there were 15 doubleheaders). Now the seats _ so close to the field that his mother got hit by a ball when Chuck Knoblauch overthrew first base eight years ago _ cost him $81,000.“From $1,000 a season, it’s $1,000 a game,” he said. “So literally they’ve now crossed that mark where it’s 81 times more expensive to see the season as it was in 1972.”
And I thought bleacher seats at Wrigley going from $4 to $40 in 20 years was harsh! Yikes!

Holy cow, sticker shock!
I’m going to go cradle my (comparatively) cheap college football season tickets!

Arrow, the thing about season football tickets for college too, is there are so many fewer games! I think season tickets at Nebraska are about $70 per seat, if you can get them.

I find it amusing that some people seem to be under the impression that Keith never has to actually buy tickets for Yankee games anymore, given that he must be a near-fixture in the media box. I doubted that. First of all, he wouldn’t be doing work in there most of the time, and there is usually only so much patience people doing work in the media have with people who are hanging around them not to do work, but for some other reason (the old “we like his cannoli” excuse). Second, maybe he doesn’t WANT to watch the game from the media box ALL the time. Third, those seats his family always had must have great sentimental value to him, and he’d want to hang onto them, especially if his mom continues to attend the occasional game.
So it’s nice to have confirmation that although Keith can surely wander into the media box if so moved, he does still actually pay through the nose for Yankee season tickets, just like most people do. Even if, on his salary, the sticker shock’s not as painful.

One more thing to add: It’s somewhat comforting to know that even Keith and his usual seat-sharing group are having second thoughts about those prices. Especially when I realize that those four season seats cost about twice what I earn in a year.
Nice to know Keith is not yet above considering the logic of the insane amounts of money he lays out for some of the things he can afford to buy. Kind of makes him more human that way.
