Merry Happy, Everyone!

Even though there has been nothing to post,* we’re still open for business through the holiday (though moderation may be slow).

I have noticed Truth and Consequences showing up on a lot of lists, but haven’t seen any reviews yet. If any of you catch a review, please drop a link in the comments, s’il vous plait. I’ll be braving the after-Christmas crowds tomorrow to pick up my own copy, and we’ll have a book review post appearing tomorrow for book talk.

*Stef was pretty ill last night, so we’ll forgive her missing FNIA. Won’t we?

Get well, Stef. I had eye surgery last week so I can understand feeling out of it during the holidays.

Happy Christmas, Holidays and New Year to all my ERT pals!

Get well Stef! Last Christmas I had the stomach flu from hell, it was Gatorade and Rice cakes for me until Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas ERT!

In a quick break between last minute cleaning and starting breakfast before the hoard descends, oh, my goodness, in one hour…..

I am celebrating the Northern Hemisphere version of Inti Raymi, so…..

Merry Christmas, Solstice, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Saturnalia, and especially Festivus to you all.

It has belatedly occurred to me, that even though our small cadre may look upon the release of Truth and Consequences as similar to the release of a new Harry Potter, for most people, and probably most bookstores, it is not.

As the book is due for release tomorrow, and as there is certainly no delivery going on today, of course THEY ALREADY HAVE IT, and not understanding the importance of the release date it is already out in some places.

I have avoided ordering from Amazon in case a family member has been paying attention and has already bought it for me or has prepared an IOU for December 26th.

But, in the past, when I have ordered from Amazon prior to release dates, the books have always arrived on or before that date.

The promise of “NEW MATERIAL” will make the usual “After Christmas Letdown” bearable this year.

I have never seen KO’s book WPITW in the bookstores in my area of Houston (we used to be in the Tom DeLay Congressional District — after he “redistricted” it — through no effort on my part!!) in either our local Borders or B&N.

I plan to check it out this week…and if not there, special order it from one or both!!!

Ah, Houstonian, but that is the kind of bookstore where I would cause a small scene, bursting into tears and wailing, “Oh, no, how can you NOT have it. IT was due out TODAY! I have been marking off the days until it was released and did not sleep last night from anticipation, etc.”

Also, a few phone enquiries in different voices.

I have also been known to move books in bookstores to more prominent positions, remembering that eye level for me is much lower than for the general public. And, for goodness sake, make sure it is not next to something with a red jacket as that will catch the attention.

There is someone in my neck of the woods who goes into the bookstores/departments and takes books by anyone even a teeny bit liberal and moves them to the bottom shelf and turns them around so the back is facing out.

I have been turning back around and moving up books by or about everyone from Al Gore to Barack Obama at my local Target for several months now.

A good reason to have the author’s photo on the back of the book.

If no one is looking it is also possible to replace the ones under the #1 Best Seller with the book you want noticed.

I suppose that this is my version of urban warfare.

BTW, about the Oddball PotY 2007 ending, it was supposed to be a parody of the ending of The Sopranos, and Keith tells us “What? You thought we ewre going to fade to black. You don’t think we have the budget of HBO…?”

Thank you, James.

As someone who has never seen The Sopranos, I missed the point of the fade to black reference of the ending, although the second time around I could tell that he had onion rings.

And, to be technical, that garish turquoise spray on condom was also featured in LAST YEARS Oddball Extravaganza.

It must be a favorite.
