The Dan Patrick Goodbye (for now) Tour, Day II

No mention yet whether or not Keith will be on today — John Elway will be with Dan at 2pm, so I’m thinking that’s a “no” on KO.

Still! Since we here at ERT adore Dan as much as we do (and oh … that’s a lot), I’ll keep this post updated with pertinent/amusing things as they happen.

For example: Dan cleaned out his desk at ESPN today. Sifting through eighteen and a half years of stuff … the detritus of his life at the Worldwide Leader, he said that’s when it really hit him that it was over.

1:55PM: Sure, I want very much to hear Keith at least once more on the show — one last Big Show before Dan pulls up stakes. But I don’t think it’s a massive deal if he’s not there in these final radio hours. I adore Keith (says so right on my business cards, under my name and “Sergeant Obvious”), and I in no way mean that he’d take away from Dan’s big day, but … I’m all right with the last Dan Patrick Shows being all about Dan.

2:33PM: In the spirit of our traditional noting which tie Keith is wearing, I’ll tell you that today Dan’s wearing a green Mets hat (St. Patty’s day issue) and the shirt from a policeman’s uniform he wore in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. There’s some concern that he’s actually guilty of impersonating a police officer. Phil jokes that in any case, he probably shouldn’t have pulled Trey Wingo over in the parking lot. Heh.

Dan read the guest lists for today and tomorrow. Guess whose name wasn’t on either.

I don’t know what’s going on here but he MUST know what everyone is asking himself, so this isn’t the best note on which to leave, IMO.

I hope Keith will be on today. I think it’s strange he won’t be if he doesn’t make at least one appearance in the next two days or so. Do you think there’s something contractual preventing him from doing so?

I’m still hoping Dan is the #1 story on Countdown Friday.

Trey Wingo is an awesome name. It’s almost as good as his real name: Hal Chapman Wingo III.

You’re right, this is Dan’s moment, but as it was mentioned somewhere else, Keith is the elephant in the room. He should be on, for at least a call. They share so much of the credit for changing sportscasting, and now that Dan is making the big move… Keith should be one of the on-the-air well-wishers.
What is this ‘On assignment’ crap anyway?

Oh, does anyone really believe for a second that Keith won’t be there tomorrow? I don’t. I think he will be there with bells on. Wouldn’t miss it for the world. The mere fact that he has not been mentioned doesn’t mean he won’t be there.

I’d be a lot more suspicious if Dan weren’t explaining his absence the past two days with “Keith Olbermann is on assignment.” This tells me that Keith’s absence is an anomaly he is acknowledging–not just a situation he’s hoping to skirt over.

Keith will be there tomorrow. Bank on it.

Dan has been popping up as guest on other ESPN shows. Here’s the blurb from the Mike and Mike section (edited):

ESPN’s Dan Patrick - Patrick saw someone that looked like Greeny in London except it was a woman!

What was funny was that Dan’s son made the observation. You can listen if you have The Insider.
